Although the autotransformers design is similar to that of transformers', their windings do not have galvanic separation from a distribution grid.
Having the same rated output (Pn) as that of transformers, the actual dimensional output (Pr) is obtained by the following formula:
 
Pr= (Vmax-Vmin x Pn) / Vmax

Separated and isolated windings are protected from dust, humidity and corrosion due to the complete impregnation and anti-mould treatment.
Prepared for operation at standard temperatures up to ta=40°C and under Classes B/F/H.
Space-saving design, steady structure, quick installation in the electrical panels. 
The autotransformers are not capable to eliminate ground faults. Therefore, all problems that concern with ground faults will be propagated through the transformer followed by a notable safety risk. 
Therefore, autotransformers are not intended for use on ships, for medical systems or for any system with galvanic separation from the electric power line.
